Living in Spruce Grove, Alberta
If you’re looking for a community that offers a perfect blend of small-town charm, family-friendly vibes, safety, and easy access to urban amenities, then you’re in the right place. In this video, I’m going to give you 7 Reasons why I love living in Spruce Grove, where neighbourly community meets natural beauty. Read to the end of this blog post to hear the # 1 Reason that Spruce Grove is a wonderful place to live!
If you haven’t heard of Spruce Grove and you’re wondering where it is, Spruce Grove is located about 15 minutes west of Edmonton, in central Alberta and about 3 hours north of Calgary.
Reason #7 - Small Town Feel
Despite its proximity to Edmonton, Spruce Grove maintains that charming small-town feel with neighbours that keep their yards clean and manicured and small businesses that are well supported. I actually love how willing the locals are to support our small businesses, restaurants and vendors in favour of larger retailers and chains. When new businesses pop up, the community clamours to offer support. Here are some of my personal favourite businesses & restaurants:
c. El Taco Loco
d. Barbacoa
e. It’Sushi
Reason #6 - Neighbourly Atmosphere

One of the standout features of Spruce Grove is its incredibly neighbourly atmosphere. The community here is known for its friendliness and strong sense of belonging. Whether you’re new to the area or a long-time resident, you’re always going to feel welcome here. Whether it’s the person in front of you in the Timmy’s drive through buying your morning coffee, meeting local creators & vendors at the Spruce Grove Farmers Market or saying hello to a neighbour when you’re just out walking your dog through the trail system our neighbourly vibes abound.
Reason #5 - Family Oriented Environment
Another reason I love living in Spruce Grove is that it’s the perfect place to raise a family. With numerous parks, playgrounds, and excellent schools, it’s no wonder why so many families call this place home. There are tons of things to do with the kids all year round whether it’s outdoor activities like the central park light up at Christmas, or bike riding with the family in the summer months. For outdoor skating and hockey – The City of Spruce Grove has three outdoor skating rinks, 2 skating ovals and three leisure ice surfaces. There are two full size ice surfaces in in the Agrena located in central Spruce Grove, two in the Tri-Leisure Centre on the west side and two more to come in the new Civic Centre Project which is now under construction. Speaking of the Tri-Leisure Centre, it’s a great place for the family and includes a pool, ice rinks, soccer field, a gym and running track.
Reason #4 - Safety First
I love that I always feel safe here, whether that means going for walks with the dogs in the evenings or out to dinner with friends. The neighbours watch out for each other and keep in touch on local Facebook Groups to let each other know if anything suspicious has been happening. The speed limits keep the kids safe when they’re walking home from school or riding their bikes. And while the speed traps on every set of traffic lights here are a bit annoying, they keep everyone in check.
Reason #3 - Close to Nature
Nature enthusiasts, you’re in for a treat! Spruce Grove is surrounded by natural beauty. You’ll find stunning parks, trails, and outdoor activities that will keep you connected with nature all year round. There is beauty within minutes of town or just a 2.5-3 hours away in the absolutely stunning Rocky Mountains.
Spruce Grove is a part of the Greater Edmonton metro area. The Metro Edmonton region is the most northerly major metropolitan area in North America.

While this may seem as a negative to some people it is a huge positive to those that love true wilderness and love to escape to places where there is virtually no one around to disturb them. It is one of the most important reasons why this region is special and undiscovered by most people in the world.
Reason #2 - Infrastructure
With Access to nature, in a safe, family friendly, neighbourly community you get the best of both worlds. All the small town feel with all of the big city amenities nearby. Another fantastic aspect of living in Spruce Grove is its proximity to Edmonton’s essential infrastructure. Whether you’re catching a flight, attending a game at Rogers Place or indulging in retail therapy at West Edmonton Mall, you’re just a short drive away from all the action.
Reason #1 to Love Living in Spruce Grove - Affordability
My number one reason for loving where I live is that we are located in the Greater Edmonton area. This region is one of the last major affordable metropolitan regions left in Canada. Job growth is excellent and there are many opportunities across multiple sectors in business and new opportunities are emerging every day. This will be the place to live in the future, both for families that are growing and want to prosper financially as well as for younger generations that want to have a chance to take on the opportunity of home ownership. This makes a lot of sense when you consider that you can buy 2 Single Family homes in the Edmonton area for the price one Single Family home in the Greater Vancouver or Toronto Areas .

Right now, the average price for a single family detached home in our region is $495K. To give you an idea of what that house would look like – this would be a house that’s 2 storeys, just under 2000 sq ft., with an attached garage and it’s maybe 15 years old or so. This obviously is going to vary depending on location but honestly, a house like this sounds like Shangri-La to a lot of Canadians out there right now. The median age for Spruce Grove residents is 36 years old. It’s the millennials and younger that are having a difficult time breaking into the housing market right now in Canada, so a city like Spruce Grove is a great place to start building a nest egg for yourself by investing in Real Estate here. The reason that our region is growing at such a steady pace is that people are discovering that it’s possible to live a comfortable life both financially and from a lifestyle standpoint with larger houses, shorter commutes and more latitude to do the things in life that matter to them because of an increase in disposable income.
